Getting Started

It’s easy to start a fundraiser on Boon Supply, and we’ll walk you through the tips and tricks we’ve learned to get it right from the start.

  1. Name Your Fundraiser: The best fundraisers have simple and descriptive names that immediately let supporters know what the fundraiser is all about. Make sure that it’s memorable, searchable, and personal. And, keep it short: fundraisers with 4-8 words in the title are the most successful.
  2. Set a Goal: How much do you need to cover your costs? Share how the money will be used to help supporters feel connected and understand what, specifically, they are contributing to. Choose an achievable goal to create excitement - this helps people feel like they can really make a difference. If you find that your initial goal is easily met or financial needs grow, you can always increase it as you go.
  3. Customize Your Fundraiser: This step is perhaps the most important - tell your story to potential supporters. Choose an image that catches the eye, and write a brief description that lets people know what you’re all about. Some things to consider while personalizing:
    • Choose a Powerful Image

Using a high-resolution personal photo drives the emotional connection between your fundraiser and your supporters.

      • Photos have the ability to quickly tell your story in a way that’s often easier to understand than words, so we always suggest using personal images wherever you can.
      • The best practice is to use a high-resolution landscape image (meaning the image is wider than it is tall) that measures 1860 px x 1050 px. Bonus points for eye-catching bold colors.
      • Using a high-resolution personal photo drives the emotional connection between your fundraiser and your supporters.

    • Write a Personal Description
      • Share your story. Let your supporters know exactly what you’re raising funds for, who it will benefit, and provide a breakdown of how the funds are disbursed.
      • Answer the who, what, where, when and how questions up front.
      • Make your story easy to skim and understand. Explain your need as if you were telling your best friend!
      • Include keywords and phrases in your description that make your fundraiser unique and more easily found by search engines.

Raising the Most

The key to a successful fundraiser is getting your community involved. Learn from our decade of fundraising experience to get the word out.

  1. Share, Share Share
  2. The best way to get the word out about your fundraiser is to share it - by email, text and social media. Posters and mailers work well too! The key is repetition - make sure you are announcing your fundraiser, show your progress and letting people know it’s about to end.
  3. Our proprietary Boost tool does the work for you - we make the ‘ask’ for you and drive people to support your cause - let us put our expertise to work.
  4. Fun & Frolics
  5. For schools, teams or groups of any size, we’ve found that instilling a sense of team spirit and making your fundraiser FUN are great ways to increase participation. Our favorite way to do these things is by implementing a program that we call Fun & Frolics.
    • For Students / Schools / Groups / Teams

This spirited principal from Patriot Elementary in Bakersfield, CA agreed to dress as a pirate or a princess if the school reached their goal. When they did, he dressed as both!

      • Switch up the dress code: Plan a pajama party, or a day to ditch the uniform.
      • Pig out: This one never gets old - throw an ice cream or pizza party.
      • Everyone’s favorite: No homework or practice day!

    • For School Faculty / Coaches
      • Switch up the dress code, part 2: It’s the adult’s turn - have them dress as punk rockers for the day, or make it their turn to wear the uniform.
      • Teaching takes talent: Have the teachers/coaches treat students to a lip-sync battle or talent show.
      • It’s getting hairy: Choose a courageous teacher or coach to shear their beloved beard or shave the school/team/group’s initials into their hair if your fundraiser meets the goal.
    • Consider putting some of these ideas up to a vote, or asking your fundraisers what will motivate them!
